To Kids Hungry Today?
We’re all about safe drinking water.
But our work of installing rain catchment tanks for schools and villages
takes us to remote indigenous villages and islands where
we see the harsh reality of their lives.
What we see is bad water – and hunger.
Not the hunger of swollen bellies and pencil-thin limbs, but malnutrition
that leads to chronic sickness and disease.
What we almost never see is food for the next meal.
A grandmother with eleven children in her care explained it.
“We never have enough. What we have today we eat today,” she said.
We looked around her house –more like a covered platform with no walls, no beds – and no food.
“What about tomorrow,” we asked.
She shrugged, “we will know tomorrow.”
The frail, frightened – and clearly underfed kids — listened.
She was their life-line, their hope. But if she had no hope,
what about them?
They were clearly malnourished–some visibly so.
We left emergency food packages of rice and
nourishment-rich lentil beans.
“Project Food “
However full our boat is with water tanks and materials to install them, we’ll start taking emergency food packages too – because you can’t say “later” to kids hungry today.
Girl Scout Volunteers from USA Help Launch “Project Food”

Girl Scout volunteers repackage bulk food into family-size emergency food packages at our island base.

On our way, with fifty emergency food packages in the bow of the boat. The girls trudged through thick, ankle-deep mud to reach families in need.

He paddled his canoe for an hour to get something to eat. He then asked for food to take back to his little brother and sister who hadn't eaten in two days.
Please support Project Food.
An emergency food package of rice and lentils for one family costs $5
How many can you provide?
Operation Safe Drinking Water is a 501 (c) (3) charity.
We’re all volunteers. No one receives a salary or compensation.
